Soundproofing next to surface mounted pipes...best practices welcome :-)Sun, 03 Jan 2021 00:12:40 +0000
Long story short, without moving surface mounted central heating pipes, trying to decide whether a new thin stud wall would be overkill versus a simple vertical batten, rockwool & plasterboard sandwich.
It's to simultaneously conceal pipes, provide access for said pipes and soundproof the party wall (the best I can). To add into the mix there's some sockets in one of the bedrooms (party wall spans two bedrooms) that would need to be brought forward or left where they are....

I am looking to buy a planer thicknesser but am really struggling to decide on what to go for. Ideally, I don't want to break the bank but neither do I want to settle for something extremely cheap that isn't really going to do the job.
I have been searching online a lot over the past week but find myself not really any further forward.
Any advice from those who have purchased / use decent models would be most appreciated.
Thank you.]]>Tiled bathroom floorSat, 02 Jan 2021 23:32:28 +0000

I'm looking to hang a children's bookshelf on an internal wall in a house we've not long moved into. It would weigh up to 26kg if full of books and could end up having my child hanging off of it!
I need some advice on what the best fixings would be. There are 4x fixing slots on the back of the shelf which take countersunk screws. The first issue is I'm not sure what the wall is made of. I assumed it was plasterboard and bought some heavy duty plasterboard fixings (link...

We have purchased a 50/60s council house where the walls were built out of the old lightweight +/- 90mm clinker blocks, which was a nightmare when i replaced the doors and frames.
We also have very squeaky floors, which are driving me nuts. We have removed the carpet and there are several unfixed, split, previously cut and bowed t&g floor boards.
What we have thought is to replace the t&g boards with scaffold boards and use them as the permanent, finished floor. How does this...
Replacing Upper Floor Floorboards]]>Titan Table Saw ProblemFri, 01 Jan 2021 20:12:45 +0000
I recently bought my first table saw, a Titan TTB763TAS Table Saw. I know it's at the "cheap & cheerful" end of the market, but I'm just a hobbyist, and after a bit of tweeking & setting-up, it seems to perform pretty well ...
But I have found one very annoying "fault" with it ...
If I move or touch the Dust Extraction Port (at rear), the blade will move "off centre" ... For example, if I set the blade to 90 degrees and put slight pressure...

I've been spending my holiday making some cabinets for the bathroom, but on the final cabinet, a standard hinge just won't work.
Its a 15mm door, with 6mm mosaics and soon to be a 6mm mirror on; there is a cover panel either side so the door is kinda inset.
My problem is that the standard hinges i had left in the toolbox mean that the mirror / mosaics foul on the edge of the cover panel, i.e. the door is too thick.
I know there's a hinge out there that will do the job, and I...

So yeah, ive set up a workshop at home for wood working and i need recommendations for dust vacuum extraction for a table saw and router table.
I was very close to buying the titan wet and dry from screwfix for £44.99 but i had my doubts and it has very mixed reviews for reliability.
Can anyone give me somewhere to start, im new to this area of tools, never had a workshop before so this dust issue has become a problem.

I am building a fitted cupboard and bookshelves unit and wanted to get advice about a DIY’ers router to create dado joints. There seem to be so many routers out there. What is a sensible brand/make for someone who will use it from time to time rather than daily use? Is a router with edges rather than circular base better? Does a light make a difference?
Thanks in advance.

Some advise would be helpful. I'm looking for a very cost effective solution (cheapest) as the will eventually be properly converted. I only need to board out to allow for storage for the next 2-3years.
I'm looking to avoid the need for Loft Legs and fix boards directly to the joists. I will have some insulation between the joists but only to 100mm. I am then considering installing the existing insulation to the rood rafters...

After suffering boggy ground for too long, I’m embarking on a decking project and would like some advice if at all possible.
This project is piecemeal. I have already made a slatted screen a year back, 3m wide with x3 100x100 posts concreted into the ground lovely and square with good foundations in the posts. I plan to use these posts as a starting block for the decking.
Overall I’m creating a 5m x 3m decking frame, with 4 concreted posts running the long sides, and planning on...

Current plan has three velux windows. What sort of cost to have these installed and if we add more how much extra. i.e can you fit three in a day but a fourth would involve an extra day so double the cost. I am assuming labor is the biggest cost of installing and carpenter will quote a daily rate.
I live in Northamptonshire if that helps.]]>47Calling loft conversion experts!Wed, 30 Dec 2020 08:13:25 +0000
